The Child and Youth Worker (CYW) will work closely with the Program Coordinator by ensuring those who attend the Quinte West Youth Centre (QWYC) respect our “Code of Conduct”, respect fellow youth members and staff, as well as adhere to all health and safety procedures. The CYW will be working with youth between the ages of 10 and 18 of all demographics and backgrounds.
This position will be responsible for supervising youth in a positive manner, lead activities, provide appropriate resources, create positive rapport with our youth and assess youth members skill strengths and needs. This position is funding based and is overseen by the Resilience Community Funds that we received, which does end on March 31st, 2024. There is a high probability this position will be extended based on new funding. As part of this funding, this position will over see our 'Let's Flourish" resiliency program, which is a 6 week structured program. This position will also oversee our Mental Wellness program that is offered each evening.
CYW will be required to participate in data collection and reporting of interactions with youth members. This position will also require availability at all of our fundraising events and participate in some outreach events that are held on weekends.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS:
- A Degree or Diploma in Child and Youth, Social Service Worker, Psychology or related field;
- Experience with working with youth
- Understanding of youth’s mental health;
- Knowledge of local resources, including mental health supports, housing supports, etc.;
- Ability to complete tasks independently and as part of a team;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Experience with and strong knowledge of communicating with donors;
- Have a valid criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening;
- Current First Aid Certificate is an asset;
- Non-profit experience will be considered an asset.
Shifts will be Tuesday to Friday from 1:30pm to 9pm.
