Position Summary: Community Engagement Specialist

Gleaners Food Bank (Quinte) Inc., Belleville ON

Permanent – Full-time

Gleaners Food Bank is a non-profit organization that provides food, resources and hope to people who are hungry in the Quinte region with a vision of a community that is hungry no more. We are seeking a full-time Community Engagement Specialist.

This position is responsible for developing partnerships and sponsorships within Hastings and Prince Edward Counties, surrounding communities, and upper-tier government with a focus on revenue growth and enhanced donor stewardship. Further, this position is responsible for promoting Gleaners through various communication avenues, including media, website, social media, and community-based special events.

The Community Engagement Specialist reports to the Director of Operations (DOO) and Chair of the Board of Directors; also works closely with Gleaners staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities include creating, implementing, and evaluating an annual fundraising strategy and an annual communication plan under the directives of the DOO and Board of Directors.

Essential Functions:

1. Creates and implements an annual fundraising strategy that incorporates face-to-face solicitation, special event fundraising, direct mail, and online giving and that includes donor recognition policies and procedures.

2. Researches grant and major gift opportunities which align with Gleaners Food Bank, proposes and writes grant applications in collaboration with the DOO/Board Chair and completes reports as required by the granting agencies.

3. Works with the DOO/Board Chair to develop an annual external communications plan that includes print materials (newsletters, annual report, etc.), digital communications, and social media content.

4. Cultivates community support for Gleaners by pursuing strategic dialogue with key individuals, businesses, labour and community organizations.

5. Leads, manages, and actively participates in special events throughout the year, including arranging and/or attending cheque presentations.

6. Develops and maintains a collaborative relationship with other community support agencies and nurtures intra-agency partnership opportunities.

Qualifications:

1. Post-secondary diploma or degree in business, marketing, communications or a related field preferred but not essential.

2. Three or more years of experience, preferably in fundraising, communications, and/or event management.

3. Professional accreditations considered assets.

4. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office platform; experience in developing and managing web content, including social media.

5. Superior written and verbal communication skills.

6. Up-to-date Canadian Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector).

7. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (with own vehicle).
